Mr. Akers was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. He had worked as an aerospace engineer and was a licensed minister. He enjoyed technology and was a ham radio operator. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Akers; son Gregory Akers of Mineral; daughter Kelly Akers of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Benjamin Akers, Brittany Akers Spruce, Matthew Akers and Riley Akers; great-grandchildren Alaina Akers and A. J. Spruce; two nieces, Connie Rachel Shrewsbury and Dana Auton; and nephew Michael Akers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Constance Akers; and brother Ralph Akers. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
